My name is Laurie and I live in Portland, Oregon. I was a stay at home mom forever. I loved helping out on field trips, teaching art in school and hanging out with my kids. As Ben and Kate (my two great kids) got older, I was not needed in the classroom as much. I began to fill my time with estate sales and crafting. I began to do craft shows during the holidays. As my business began to grow, I decided on the name Magpie Ethel for it. Magpies collect shiny things (and I like shiny things and glitter). Ethel was my grandmother and I love her old fashioned name. It was a perfect fit. I am lucky enough to live in a house that had a great room attached to the garage which became my studio. It is the perfect spot to craft and collect. I am really active on Instagram where I share my love of vintage, estate sales, holidays and decorating. I have two shops on Etsy, my other shop is E is for Ethel (vintage finds). I am very thankful for my Magpie Ethel world. This is what I wanted to do when I grew up...I have found my niche.

What makes Magpie Ethel unique? I love estate sales and finding the unusual. I craft with what I find. For the most part everything I make has a vintage component to it. There is a story behind the finds that I use to make what I do. Whimsical, colorful and sure to make you smile..my creations are one of a kind. I love all holidays and my work reflects that.
